Welcome to Mrs. Flynn's Kindergarten Class!

Our Kindergarten Class Page

A little about me: I am a SUNY Potsdam graduate with a Master’s degree in Elementary Education.  I have been an educator for over 20 years teaching all grades Kindergarten through Third, and have been teaching here at Lawrence Avenue since 2014. I love working with my students and their families, so please feel free to contact me if I can be of help in any way.

Welcome To Kindergarten!

Welcome to Kindergarten! This will be such an exciting year filled with learning and fun! I look forward to getting to know you and your children. To help us have a successful year, here are a few important tips:

  1. Have a backpack large enough to carry home projects and a school folder.
  2. Bring a refillable water bottle no larger than 16 ounces.
  3. Label everything you send to school (clothes, shoes, back pack, etc.)
  4. Send all money in a labeled envelope.
  5. Make sure children are dressed for outdoor recess.
  6. Send an old baby blanket to use at rest time. (No larger than 3’ x 4’.)  No pillows or stuffed animals please.
  7. Bring your smile! It's going to be a great year.

Communication:  I am a firm believer in parent-teacher communication.  If there are concerns or questions that I may have about your child, I will call or email you.  Likewise, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you have throughout the year. I also ask you to please check your child’s folder every night as important papers that may be time sensitive are often inside.

Snack/Birthdays:  Each month we have a new snack calendar and each child/family brings a class snack on their day. We will have snack each morning and we do have a peanut allergy, so please check that any snacks you send are peanut/ nut free.  We have a healthy snack policy for all of Lawrence Avenue, so please keep this in mind as you help your child choose their snack.   Students will be recognized on their birthday (or near the end of the year if their day falls during summer break) with a birthday certificate and a chance to choose a prize from the treasure box.  You may send in cupcakes or another snack of your choice on that day. I would also ask that if your treat requires spoons, plates, napkins, etc. that you also send those supplies in. It is also helpful if you let me know of a date you will send in the treat so I can plan accordingly.

Schedule:  We continue to run on a six-day cycle for specials.  Day 1 will be PE, Day 2: Music, Day 3: PE, Day 4: Library and Music, Day 5: PE, Day 6: Art.  Our lunch is from 11:20 - 11:50

Classroom Rules: We will spend a considerable amount of time during the first month of school establishing rules and procedures. Students will have the opportunity to practice these rules throughout the day so that they become routine. The rules at Lawrence Avenue focus on students being safe, respectful and responsible. We also participate in the Positivity Project in our district to help students understand that other people matter.

Book Orders:  I will be sending home book orders on a monthly basis. Book orders do provide great prices on books and other academic resources, but book orders are completely optional. Directions will be sent home for registering with our online Reading Club with Scholastic.

If you have any questions or concerns about anything during the year, please feel free to contact me.  You can reach me by phone at school (265-2000) generally between the hours of 8 and 4, or through email at  I thank you in advance for your commitment to your child’s education and I look forward to a wonderful year with your child!
