Dear Lawrence Avenue Elementary Parents and Guardians,
I’d like to share some important information about your child’s learning experience as we begin a new school year.
English Language Arts (ELA): We’re entering our second year with the Bookworms curriculum, a literacy program grounded in the latest research on reading instruction. Alongside Bookworms, we also use the 95% Phonics Core Program, which supports effective literacy development across grades. These programs are designed to help your child become a skilled and confident reader.
Mathematics: We’re excited to introduce a new math curriculum called Reveal Math. This program deepens students’ understanding of mathematical concepts while encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving. Reveal Math meets the diverse needs of our students, providing them with the tools to succeed in math and beyond.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): At Lawrence Avenue Elementary, we prioritize social and emotional learning through the Positivity Project, also known as "P2." This program teaches students about positive character traits and how they can contribute to a supportive school community. This year, we’re expanding on P2 with our new motto: "Stellar Sandstoners," which is supported by four essential guidelines:
- Learn and Grow From Mistakes
- Use Kind Words and Actions
- Do Your Best
- Build Positive Relationships
These principles will be integrated into our daily lessons to help students develop strong character and interpersonal skills.
Academic Intervention Services (AIS): To ensure that all students have the support they need, we offer Academic Intervention Services (AIS). Every student receives Tier 1 instruction from their classroom teacher. If your child requires additional support through Tier 2 or Tier 3 services, you’ll receive a separate AIS progress report along with their report card at the end of each quarter. These services are designed to help students reach their full potential.
We are committed to providing a well-rounded education that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth. We look forward to a successful year of learning and development for our students at Lawrence Avenue. Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Sharlee Thomas
Principal
