Principal's Message

Dear Families,

As summer begins to wind down, I would like to take a moment to welcome you back to school. Hopefully everyone found time this summer to relax and spend time with family and friends. We hope you are just as excited as we are to begin a new school year on Tuesday, September 5th. This year we will continue to focus on what makes our school great and look for innovative ways to provide rich learning experiences for our students.

In addition to the great programs we offer at our school, we are happy to announce that we will be kicking off the Positivity Project. This district-wide program focuses on teaching children about their unique character strengths and the perspective that other people matter. I strongly urge all parents to attend the Parent Information Night on September 26th starting at 6:30PM. We are very fortunate to have the founders of the Positivity Project, Mike Erwin and Jeff Bryan, joining us to share the message of this powerful program. Save the date!

Having spent a week this summer at Columbia University’s Teachers College being a student myself and learning about ways to support teachers in our writing instruction, I am excited for you to see what great writers your children can be. This school year all teachers in grades K-4 will be implementing Writer’s Workshop as a method to teach students how to write. Being a skilled writer is essential to helping our students find success in the future. Prepare to be amazed at the writing pieces your children produce this year.

As we look ahead to the upcoming year, we have some very exciting events coming up and hope you will attend:

  • Pre-K Orientations will be held on Tuesday, September 5th and Wednesday, September 6th. Orientation times were mailed to families earlier this summer. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are unsure of the time. The first official school day for Pre-K will be on Thursday, September 7th.

  • Kindergarten Meet & Greet will be held on Friday, September 1st from 1:00-2:00PM. All Kindergarten families are invited to tour their classrooms and meet the teachers.

  • Fourth Grade Curriculum Information Night for parents will be held on Thursday, August 31st starting at 4:30PM. Please join our teachers as they share information for the upcoming school year.

  • Parent Information Session for Families New to Lawrence Avenue will be held on Thursday, August 31st at 5:00PM in the school library. Please RSVP by emailing or by calling the main office at (315) 265-2000 ext. 246.

  • Meet the Teacher Night for all Lawrence Avenue families will be held on Thursday, September 21st from 6:00-7:30PM.
